A Drink With…CW van Baale

Bartender, I’ll have a…Vanilla Coke

I’m SURE you remember me from such Factory shows as…Here Comes a Regular, Top Shelf Gash, The Willing Participant, GIs in Europe, Operation Infiltration, Janice Dutts Goes to Life Camp, Siskel and Ebert Save Chicago, RenFaire! A fistful of Ducats, Dead Wrong, The League of Awesome, Black and Blue, ‘Namosaur, Take the Cake

It’s ok if you don’t remember from these shows, since you likely didn’t see me. I build/fix/finagle/rig/enable the tech elements of the shows.

I got involved with the Factory because…they needed help programming lights for Here Comes A Regular, and I was able to get everything up and running. I knew some of the ensemble already, so I stuck around

My current/next gig is…a piece I have not yet discovered.

I give a shit about our move to Rogers Park because…it’s the first neighborhood I lived in when I moved to Chicago and it needs some Factory fun. The place was “up and coming” when I arrived and left, but Factory will help keep the place on the right track. Also, it will be great to have our own place.

If I had to force you to listen to 2 albums, they would be… “Aenima” by Tool and “Even Worse” by Weird Al Yankovic

My favourite Factory memory is…my first memory of the company. I was in Chicago on a college trip in 1995 and we were looking for a show to see in our free time. The guy at the Hot Tix recommended we see “Bitches”, so we got tickets. Not only did it feature our Hot Tix vendor as the homicidal mother of a cheerleader, it was also a funny, timely, and innovative show that was unlike anything I had seen before.

I’m switching drinks, I’ll have a… chocolate milk.
